4QD use PipeDream 4 on a RISC OS computer.
We are sure that we could not run our business as economically or as efficiently without PipeDream. Nor would it be so enjoyable!
We therefore run a mailing list for users of PipeDream and we this dedicate part of our site to the support of this list.
Sorry, the list is closed.
Initially the list was opened to stimulate interest in PipeDream and to foster an environment where it could be further developed. However, the 'custodian' (or do I mean curator?) of PipeDream does not see it as being worth such further development as I envisage and he took umbrage at my attempts.
A list such as this is a dead duck if it is ostracised by those who are responsible for the software's development and the PipeDream list has, indeed, died a slow death.
I had thrown the running of the list open to members - if I relinquished alld interest in the list, maybe it would recover now that Gerald Fitton did not have to live with me running it. However, nobody has offered to take control of the list. Seems that they are, indeed, as Gerald once implied to me, a rather disinterested bunch. But I detect the distinct odour of a long-dead, self-fulfilling prophecy somewhere here!
However: if enough users like enough of the proposed features, then maybe we can subscribe to a fund and purchase an update? There are several feature I would like to see.
Gerald Fitton, who runs Abacus, owns the rights to PipeDream and runs GoldLine, the official support medium for both PipeDream and FireWorkz.
GoldLine membership buys you mail support from Abacus, free updates as they occur and a re-writable CD. The cost of a subscription to GoldLine is £20.00 for one year, £36.00 for two and £52.00 for three. What you get are all Gerald's articles for Archive, all the ILine, PipeLine and ZLine discs (which are still being produced) as well as some demo programs and a few other bits and bobs. And Gerald's 'Spreadsheets from the Beginning' as well as past election results (if that interests anyone). During your subscription time you can update the CD by returning it to Gerald who will then update the CD, and send it back to you. Usually this only takes a few days.
