Open the Choices dbox by clicking Select on the Iconbar menu.
The box that opens is where the most often used configuration options can be set.
Choices
The choices dbox is in three sections. The left hand section is the menu: It stays present and the blackened pushbutton shows the choices section currently in opertaion, in this case 'Misc'. The choices are divided into
The right hand section of the dbox is a tick list of the choices available for the current section and most of the choices are self explanatory.
You can also use Acorn !Help to get a slightly more verbose description of the individual option.
The Mode choices dbox is opened by pressing Menu in an . The Mode choice available will naturally be the choice for the mode of the window you chose!
A quicker way to access these dboxes, is to click Select or Adjust on the 'tick' icon on the open StrongEd window's toolbar.
Mode Choices do not all take immediate effect. Many of them are simply default values for text/views created with this mode, and you'll have to create a new text to see the effect of your changes.
These mode choices settings are stored in the !StrED_cfg.Options file, except for so-called application modes (like !News and !HTML) which have their mode choices stored in their own sub directories in !StrED_cfg.
Click Select on the iconbar icon, or press
, to create a new blank Basemode textfile. it will be named, by default, 'Textfile'.
You can also create a file in any chosen Mode by using the submenu 'Create' from the iconbar menu, or clicking with adjust on the iconbar icon which opens the list of modes curently available.
Pressing
while dragging the file will load the file, even if it is already loaded.
Pressing
while dragging a BASIC file will stop StrongEd stripping off the line numbers.
One of the nice features of StrongEd is an 'undo' buffer. Pressing
undoes the last key press (or other change). Keep pressing
and you work backwards through the changes you have made to the file. It can be quite magical watching StrongEd restore all those cock-ups you just made.
